im using a very customized version of kubuntu 10.4
and i allready tried changeing the soundcard for the whole system but then (of cause) all sound went throu the headset (which i dont want since i have no idea to change the soundcard used by firefox)

with ubuntu you have to set this in pulse audio my brother uses a usb headset with urban terror sometimes and also with other things. your version uses pulseaudio so it will be in your sound settings

PulseAudio
Kubuntu now uses the PulseAudio sound server by default. Building on the efforts of Ubuntu over the last several release cycles, this system is now used by Kubuntu to give users enhanced configurability, flexibility and ease of use. System Settings and KMix have been updated to enhance Pulseaudio control integration.
ps. it looks like it was done to fix a problem with a previous release breaking usb sound devices compatibility. Linux sound in general was a complete mess for a long time and developers have been working hard to fix it and for me in ubuntu 10.10 at least it seems to have worked i have had none of the problems with sound i did before.
