While using the nickname checker I saw a name I mostly use is already in use. It told me the nickname was in use by -(CENSORED FOR SAFETY OF USER)-, If I were to send this user a message asking if I could have the name or if he would to trade the nickname for one of mine could I get into any kind of trouble with the moderators?

And once you have a nickname can you get rid of it? Thanks

Your forum account can have up to three different nicks, they can be changed & removed unlimited times.
The nickname checker will get updated once passport goes online and it will be more forgiven to similar nicknames.
In case he uses the exact or an very similar name you can only ask him if he's willing to give his nickname to you.
