Are the animations going to be the same as in this https://www.youtube....h?v=yi_O8Zi2jSg video (the 4.2 French Lan release candidate?) or have they improved upon since? To me it seems like a downgrade from 4.1.1. But I'm looking forward to some of the other features.
The problems discovered there were updated/fixed. :)
Cheers... s.e.t.i.

Divinity, we have managed major releases in the past. We take a few weeks to prepare these things, we have some experience here. Everybody will be able to get the release just fine. You are just going to have to have some fayth that we use more than one server.
Like I said, I was simply posting how a single server would behave. It was not an indictment on how FS will or won't handle any upcoming releases. Anecdotally, I remember quite clearly how the 4.1 release went. There was quite a few of us in the TS2 server (ahh the days) downloading at the same time. Download time was at least 2-3 hours. This isn't the end of the world, mind you. Just pointing out how long it took us to download. Interestingly, I'm pretty sure we were downloading via bittorrent because the official download links were abysmally slow.

Courgette was not added to the FrozenSand team. As Barbatos said, he was added to the QA team so that he could gain access to the release in order for him to adjust the B3 log parsing to accommodate the changes. Barbatos was in the middle of his final exams week and he was still logging in hours to complete his project. You can't expect him to dedicate his personal time to your every question. He had a thousand other things he needed to juggle in order to get this out the door. He also had to juggle all of our own questions internally!
I figured he was busy. No big deal. You make it sound like I asked him 30 questions. I went back and checked the messages I sent him. I asked exactly one question and that went unanswered. The rest were feature requests and suggestions that were summarized in two or three messages. He himself confirmed that after he saw I had sent several messages I was dropped out of his priority queue. No big deal. It is what it is.

GitHub is pretty easy to use. Any of your coder friends could have easily answered your question on how to use it. There are extensive help pages there.
Yeah, I'm trying to learn it so I can use it for some projects I'm working on.

We are a private little development team, we enjoy hanging out together and most of all we enjoy the bits and pieces we all add to this game. We all do this with our spare time, we do not have a schedule of regular releases nor will we ever. We do take into consideration the suggestions the community makes, and also suggestions from the leagues which affect competitive play. What we do not have is a Urt Steering Committee which defines the direction we want the game to take. FS is capable of making these decisions internally, in fact I think most would be surprised the lengths we go to in discussing some ideas that have come from the community.
I hope this clears it all up and get all your questions answered in a simple post. We hope you are as excited as we are for the release.

Seems to me that a two hour download time is not all that bad considering the amount of effort it takes to run down to the store to buy a box of bits and bytes. :D
Being reasonable one can't expect to cook a twenty pound Turkey in a microwave in under five minuets..even though I sure there are more than a few who can. :D

Keep in mind that not all people got a 1000Gb internet connexion ;) So the time took is "normal". Downloading more than 1Gb in some minutes also require to have a good internet connexion (the part between you and your provider). That's will be the same even if they have 1 or 100 download servers.
(Keep in mind too that people still have 56Kb/s and that will take hours for them)

LOL two words -- fried turkey
I honestly think it was even longer than that, but I feel comfortable with that to know I'm not exaggerating. My discussion was more about discussing how easy a server with a good connection can get swamped when it gets the functional equivalent of the "slashdot effect". It's one reason that even today bittorrent is the most efficient way to distribute large files to lots of people. another is that you run zero risk in your download getting hosed if something screws up a few hours in when you aren't looking.

Oh sure we understand the the demands of bandwidth based on the “expected†level of demand but at this stage in the game it's kind of like telling Mario Andretti that a F1 car goes really really fast. ;)
To be honest though we learned a lot of good lessons from the HD Alpha release, one being never release while the head server administrator is out for dinner :D, and what we learned from what was basically a screw up is to have on hand what we expect but at the same time be able to scale up if demand exceeds expatiations.
Between Raider and Evilelf they have this machine so wired up that at times I think I can see the glow from here.

So I dug through the first ten pages or so of this thread and finally cried uncle (or got tired of server owners arguing about auth, either way...)
What I was looking for and didn't find is whether there's an official FAQ posted on 4.2, particularly with regard to specifics about auth, new weaps, maps, etc. Or are we going to wait for release day to learn all this fun stuff?
Also, is there any chance I can get the pipes back into my username? The ones are a bit dorky
(edit: it's amusing to see myself as a "newbie player" after all these years. Guess I should have paid attention when the forum migration was happening.
