Firing while strafing left and right causes the muzzle flash to point to the players side. 4.1 does have the same problem, however it is far more noticeable in 4.2, especially with the Sr8. These shots where taken right after changing direction to cancel the movement penalty.
4.1 Sr8 shot while strafing.
4.2 Sr8 shot while strafing.
Crouching after the strafe in 4.2 causes the muzzle flash to point straight down instead of forward.
4.1 crouch
4.2 crouch
This happens with autos as well. It can look confusing seeing muzzle flashes shoot towards the right and get killed by someone you didn't think was shooting at you.

There does seem to be a problem with how the opponent is looking at you when they fire. You cannot always tell they are firing at YOU, thus you don't know that you're in any inherent danger. A crouching player, firing at the ground, or they appear to be firing at somebody else around an adjacent corner and making hits with you is +1 confusing.

looks fine to me
Del, I think the point of these images is that the sniper is actually aiming and firing directly at (or a millimeter off of) the player who's POV we are seeing. But instead of looking like he's firing at us, he looks like he's firing off in all other directions.
