Something we noticed right off the bat was that when the enemy dropped the flag, you no longer had to wait that ~1s before you could return it. It is now instantaneous. However, it only seems to be one sided, so maybe it's a bug? If I drop the flag, I have to wait to pick it back up. If I drop the flag, the enemy can return it immediately.

This is on purpose.

We totally like not waiting to return the flag, but I'm curious as to the rationale behind preferring the flag owner over the enemy in grabbing the dropped item, if you don't mind taking the time to explain?

I guess it prevents unintentional picking up of the flag after intentionally dropping it.
My ambition is handicapped by my laziness.

Agreed. It's nice to be able to drop a flag somewhere where it takes you a second or so to step away from and that silly flag doesn't reattach itself to you, but...

You, me, and one of my teammates are engaged in a firefight. I die, flag drops, you and my teammate lunge for the flag. My teammate gets there first, but you win and are able to return the flag since the flag hasn't been idle long enough for my teammate to grab it. And before anybody asks, yes, this sort of scenario does happen often.

I think this is only on self drops, i was singing FS praise when i realized that silly flag detect issue had been addressed (not really and issue but specifically changed)

as the owner if you drop there's ~1 sec before you can pick it back up, but as a teammate i can get it just as instantly as if I were an enemy, at least thats how ive seen it i can drop a flag on a team mate and it doesn't hit the ground first it immediately attaches to him.

I think the delay should be 300-500Ms best of both worlds

I think the delay is here in case you're stuck in a corner (remember the medkit bug that just drops on your feet when you have a wall touching your back?), so it allows you to drop it and run away, either for someone to take it over, or just so you can move out.

Without delay, we would have many instances of dropping it, then picking it up the same guy accidentally.

Imho it's good as it is, because if you drop the flag, it's because of a major reason (hiding it, giving it to a teammate, etc.), so it helps intentional drops, and it is consistent gameplay-wise with the dropped guns/items taking a while to being picked up again after being dropped.

the fix for this would be to make:
the default action for dropping equipment should be to throw away from the player in whatever direction the player is facing say 3 or 4ft
