kicked by [auth] (stolen tag)

I was on [TRY] New York 4.2 LMS server for over 10 minutes without an issue, when suddenly I was kicked with the message:
kne was kicked by [auth] (stolen tag)
My auth key works in-game, and the auth bot showed me as having joined with the proper 'newbie' rank. I did not change my name -- it was the lower-case version of my registered name (kne).

Hey Kne, for some reason the auth system has been kicking people left and right out of the server for "stolen tags". Typically the people getting kicked aren't wearing tags at all, but you're the 5th or 6th person that has mentioned it to me, and yesterday, I myself got kicked, and couldn't rejoin until I edited my authkey.cfg to "00000", connected, and then inputted my auth key again. Everything should be good now, but lemme know if you encounter any problems.

servers shouldn't be using the auth system anyways as its exploitable and crashes the server, and has a few other bugs. This is all being looked into and hopefully a patch will be out soon, but in the meantime server admins were warned not to use AUTH.

Yes, but as far I see on this forum, the warning has been deleted
and hopefully that time has gone.
Btw, I'm wondering on a different behaviour of "stolen tag" kick.
With these settings
//*** Authentication System
set auth_enable "1"
set auth_notoriety "0"
set auth_tags "1"
set auth_cheaters "1"
set auth_verbosity "0"
set auth_log "1"
set auth_groups ""
players with login spoofing protected tags get stolen kick, but
trolls without login can spoof whatever wherever.
Hey, something wrong here.

With set auth_notoriety 1 only authed players can join.
I understand, but tag protection should depend on
set auth_enable "1" (that can be set from now on any, almost decent, server)
instead of auth_notoriety that in an optimistic estimation could be activated
widely (widely? say 50%) not before 6 months.
This should grant better protection.
Or I don't understand the logic where with auth_notoriety 0
players with login can't abuse tag clan, and lazy people without login are able to troll
on any server without problems (excluding noob setups without auth at all).
My point of view is "trust no one", not believe all and exlude who say he's lying :)
I hope to have explained clear what I mean.
Thanks for your attention and answer.
