Karl Maria Windowsnoob speaking..

i un-rar_ed this and am left with the exe file some other stuff and aq3ut4 folder...

i don't want to screw up my official 4.2 installation and wanted to know if i can run the offical build and root's build without mixing up those two versions

i'd be really happy about a how-to

Install them in 2 different folders. For example:

C:\Users\karl\official42
and
C:\Users\karl\r00t42

R00t: I've managed to reproduce an anomaly with your build only (not official client).
You can find the detail in this post.

Like I've reproduced it easily, maybe you will too and then you'll be able to fix this.

Thank you so much.

That's surely because R00t's build uses a "bumpy" renderer.
you might have some glitches in some maps sometimes, but nothing really annoying in general.

But nothing R00t can do I think, since it's in the engine, and I don't think he works on q3 engine.

Big improvement in FPS. I see average fps jump in timedemo run from 50-ish to 90-ish compared to the most recent official UrT 4.2 binary which has some issues with SSE support.

I noticed one small issue. It's nice that in the video settings there is now an option for 1920x1080 resolution. However, after selecting it the game started looking really ugly. It looks like after selecting this, the game may be running at something like 1280x1024, so I went back to typing in the custom resolution manually. Perhaps there is a code error?

The new resolutions only work with the official 4.2 client.

Client have been updated to version 0.34:
  • Updated master server port
  • Updated dmaHD
  • Fixed missing textures on some icy maps (mostly glass floor, like on icy bowl)
  • Fixed screen resolution list to be same as in official client
  • Will not spam "couldn't write q3config.cfg" when your config is read-only

Great to see another source code release.

Sadly I get a make error, and I have no idea how to fix this

Probably some freetype version issue. Just disable it in makefile using USE_FREETYPE=0, it's only used for translated text feature, nothing else.

Anything you can do about bloom cause this is just awful. And it looks ten times worse when moving and the weird overlay gives the dreadful effect.
