It’s not terribly uncommon occurrence — the updater does not actually check the file integrity, but the game itself does (that’s how the “pure client†check works). You’ll have to check all the freshly downloaded files and delete the ones that are broken.
Ten files were downloaded in .008 update:
There are several ways to check them, the “right†one being computing MD5 hashes (the official sums are published on the downloads page). Quoth the “Beginner’s guide to UrTâ€:
There are other, less mysterious ways, for example, you can try opening all changed PK3s with something that supports ZIP files (7zip works perfectly for this purpose) — if a file doesn’t open, it’s corrupted. And of course you can always compare filesizes (see the table in the linked article) — while not 100% sure method, corrupted files often have clearly wrong size.

To compute the MD5 checksums of files, you need dedicated software — Linux and other Unixes (including OS X) should come with the command-line md5sum already installed, Windows users can download the install-less graphical WinMD5Free or use Microsoft’s command-line checksum utility. If a checksum differs from the published value, the respective file is corrupted and must be replaced or overwritten.
