typing the darn key is also a no go... keep getting invalid-messages (quadripple-checked them)

Pasting should work on Mac with Ctrl-V (NOT Command-V). Otherwise, you can put your authkey in a file called "authkey" in your q3ut4 folder, which would be in

~/Library/Application Support/Quake3

if my memory serves me correctly.
