I'm downloading this game after years of playing it last, and I saw the news on the auth keys and I was wondering am I safe playing this game right now? Thank you!

Its perfectly safe. You just can't log in with auth until the system is recreated. Until then, it's just like playing in 4.1 or previous versions in terms of logging in (as in, there is no log in :)
