Someone hit me in the face with a dining chair if I'm just being a moron, but I looked through the Windows 8 related topics and didn't see this, so I'll go ahead and post it.

The game installed fine, no problems, but when I reopen the launcher to run the game, it just closes. Nothin'. Checked processes and apps and whatnot too; not a single thing. It just terminates itself instead of running.

Too lazy to check specific specs, but I've got a tower with a nice AMD CPU, Biostar motherboard, and several sticks of memory. Graphics drivers are all installed, nothing seems out of place as far as other Windows 8 problems on the section.

The funny thing is, I can run UrT on my utterly terrible, beat-up laptop with Windows 7 on it. Any ideas?

maybe try to run it in compatibility mode. With right click on Quake3-UrT.exe -> properties and compatibility

Please try deleting your autoexec.cfg / q3config.cfg and loading the game.
Ensure there are no previous tasks of Urban Terror running in your Task Manager.

I'll give that a try. And I mentioned in my original post I already checked for other sessions of it running,

Ah, balls. Quake3-UrT.exe isn't actually in there. I'll try tampee's idea and then reinstall it.

If it still doesn't work, I'll try downloading the full game instead of the updater.

No wonder you can't get the game to run... the updater can sometimes miss the executables. If you delete zUrT42_0009.pk3 in the q3ut4 subfolder and run it again, it should download the executables.

Yeah, I've noticed on both computers the updater is a little buggy.
