Will FS be using AMD Mantle in Urban Terror HD ?
Will FS prefer DirectX or the new AMD API - Mantle ?
AMD created a new API called Mantle that gives you a lot more FPS and performance without having to upgrade anything. Especially in worse systems this made a huge difference, the difference between playable and not playable.

DirectX is Windows only. AMD has announced their intention to support Linux, but Mantle is still going to be AMD graphics cards only. So most likely HD will use OpenGL. But the devs will be able to give you a definitive answer.

FS is not developing a proprietary engine for Urban Terror HD: they are using Unreal Engine 4 so there is not much to talk about. UE4, if I'm not mistaken, support both DirectX and OpenGL (the latter will be widely used I guess since OpenGL is multiplatform while DirectX is Windows only)

Fenix is correct that Epic is looking after all things engine and performance wise but we are preforming due diligence.

Doing a bit of research it's clear that a lot of engine developers have overlooked the need for CPU optimization and have gotten a bit lazy by letting the GPU handle a lot of the performance requirements.

Over the past few months it's clear that performance issues is a priority with Epic and it's become a common occurrence that it is resolved in short order.

The big new GPU API planned for UE4 is Apples Mental, not Mantle, which Epic is working with Apple to included as an addition to UE4 with talks that it will be available to both PC and Apple computers.

The examples so far have been very impressive.
