In my opinion YMMV: max value is 1024. In practice 512 is fine, I have tried both for months on end and I cant tell the difference. :)

640MB is absolutely fine with large maps.
Max is 1024MB on 32bit binaries iirc.

Hi Nitro :)
AFAIK windows and mac are 32bit clients but linux does ship with 64bit client.
I've just been messing around , the upper limit for both 32bit and 64bit binary is 2040MB
It seg faults on 2048MB.
Things might be different on a 32bit OS, I was using 64bit linux.

The engine seems quite happy with a value of "0"!!!!
Makes me think that there is a minimum value hardcoded...
\com_hunkmegs
"com_hunkmegs" is:"0" default:"512"
I could load some of the bigger maps no problem.
Beats me, I rember back in the day of Quake3 having to raise the hunkmegs to load some maps.
I have come to the conclusion that com_hunkmegs does nothing.
Edit:
hunkmegs are indeed harcode to minimum value 512.
Minimum com_hunkmegs is 512, allocating 512 megs.

the restriction I believe is a microsoft/windows restriction for 32bit apps which can be increased if compiled to be LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE (increases limit to something like 2-3GB) but for something like UrT it isnt needed.
