You guys watch some of the demonstrations in Iraq?

If you look at the guns some of these guys have it's very advanced stuff (for the region): Lots of MP5Ks,MP5s and G3s.

MP5Ks + MP5s?!?

G3s I can sort of understand but where are they getting the H+K stuff?

I've also seen some newer AKs not the usual 47s.

I've been to the region (not Iraq but Iran and the surrounding area) and all I've EVER seen is AK47's and bloody ancient ones at that.

Where are the newer guns coming from?

I don't think it's shady arms dealers as if you look at other conflict areas (Africa) you see just updated AKs and RPGs.

Come on guys I know some of you are nuts enough to throw some answers at me.

I watch the news - Sky/BBC/CNN + many webcasts such as reuters. I have not yet seen anything besides the regular AK47.

BTW, the G3 is also made by Heckler & Koch. We Germans have a history in arms... Possibly some Bavarian sh!thead entrepreneur made some extra cash selling these illegally.

guns are fairly simple machines. whats to say someone isnt making cheap and functional knock-offs. man has been making guns for 200 years or so. all ya need to do is melt some metal into neat little shapes slap it together and point it at your neighbor.

That's how you get the AK :)
The HK weapons are a lot more sophisticated I would imagine.

I'm thinking either maybe the demonstrations were staged by the Americans (like the statue toppling).
Or the Iraqs are getting the hardware off of dead 'security agents' ie goon mercenaries of which there are nearly 10,000 running unrestricted.
Kill a goon get a free gun :)

Don't know about this example, but it wouldn't be the first time. But you're right, it's funny... in a sick kind of what the hell are they doing kind of way.

The MP5 series was produced under licensed production agreements in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey for years.

The MP5’s were showing up in Bosnia and Serbia, breaching the UN arms embargo as early as 1991.

They’re quite wide spread. As an example Turkey shipped 500 MP5's to Indonesia in 1999, at the height of the violence in East Timor, after an EU embargo on arms to Indonesia prevented Germany or the UK from supplying the weapons.

You can get a MP5 anywhere in that region.
