i finally decided to totally get rid of windows even on my "gaming" comp.
now im wondering which fs would be best for this.
iv read several benchmark and threads about it but no definitive or clear answer ,
i have 2 x 80 gb sata disks available for linux on a nforce 3 mobo(asus k8n-e deluxe) + athlon64 (3000+) + geforce6800gt256mo + 1.5 Go ddr@400mhz.
if u have some advice about fs choice and partitions sizes ( /, swap , /home ) for best performances, they are welcome
thx
p.s.: ahhh also , if u have a better suggestion than the pclinux distro for gaming , its welcome too ^

Right now im testing PCLinuxOS from a cd.. It looks nice and its very fast.. Perhaps im getting into this as well... Cant get my keyboard to work properly though, perhaps it would be different if i install it.. And one more thing.. I cant get my resolution higher than 1024 x 768.. In windows i have 1280 x 1024, same here as well? A complete install would do the trick? Also the fonts looks kind of wierd whn i write here.. Anyway, we see how this turn out to be

u can change the max resolution through the pclinuxos control center / hardware / monitor or smthg , but u have to log out and press ctrl-alt-backspace to apply changes.
about the keyboard i cant help , i have had kinda same probleme with my logitech ultrax media desktop, couldnt have some keys to work.
u can change fonts as in windows , and even more things u can change .
anyway. pclinuxos installation is fast , it takes +- 20 minutes and ur desktop is ready , with all the progs u need, u maybe just can spend a few more minutes to dl updates from the synaptic tool.
also www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php and www.google.com/linux are your friend if you are a beginner like me with linux.

Personally running gentoo linux here. It's harder to get going, but once it's up and running you will know what makes it tick and configure it to get the ultimate gaming rig. The installation management for software is probably the most versatile on any linux (and includes urban terror and quake3 as well as video file support).
Not for the people who want to install 20 minutes and get using it though. Expect the install to take like a whole day (for the machine, user interaction only required in the beginning).

Personally I'm a Gentoo developer I tend to use ReiserFS, not Reiser4. On the smaller, more embedded systems I have I just stick with ext2 or even JFFS2. Performance-wise, don't touch XFS, the amount of kernel overhead required makes me cringe. ReiserFS, ext3, and even JFS are going to give you better performance.
