Suggestion for forum

Having been counseled on this matter myself I'd like to suggest that some sort of criteria be added to the forums rules (which I read prior to ever posting here) regarding when to post comments etc under an older thread...as opposed to when to start a new thread regarding that topic. One could just as easily wind up being "counseled" regarding opening redundunt threads as one could irritate another by dredging up an old one.
When exactly is a thread too old to ever post in again? I asked Illogical once why those old threads weren't locked and he said essentially that he wasn't going through the hassle to fix something that wasn't broke enough to warrant said hassle. That's fair enough to me...but then there they are....lurking...lying in wait for someone to suddenly decide they have something to say about that particular comment....and sure enough along comes some grouchy elite forum vet to point out that he's "ruining" the forum experience by digging up an old thread.
Come to think of it I can't figure out why thats such an interruption to people...if you think it's too old of a thread to even discuss....why read it? I always click on "show unread posts" and I don't just serf around the main vein of the thread anyway so it doesn't matter to me if the thread gets moved to the top or not.
Whatever....some ppl read the rules page when they started posting here...some sort of footnote in there may not be a bad idea.
