The skinny on this is that I tend to swap between windows and linux about every two years. This time I decided to just remain dual boot and decided to save disk space by using symlinks. So, I have quake3 and q3ut3 installed on mw windows box, and everything runs smooth. So I decided to play q3 in linux again and now for some reason when I attempt to join a q3ut3 server I get the mis-typed cd key error. Of course, some of you are quick to say that the cd key is not legit; however, that is not the case. I suspect the problem is in my setup or has to do with the guid/key/pb.
The Setup:
Windows XP:
Standard install of QuakeIII with q3ut3.
Linux:
#> /usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3 $ ls -la

so I think that is the gist of what is going on.
Any idea if any of this would cause a mis-typed cd key error?

Ok so here was the problem. I got even more lazy and symlinked ~/.q3a/baseq3 -> /usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3
I guess it didn't like the fact that it was reading the files twice?
[me=tanq]shrugs [/me]
And to answer your question I had retyped the cd key to give me the warm fuzzy, but that was not the problem as you now know.
Thanks anyway.
