Last weekend i installed Ubuntu 6.10. Im a linux nub, and have just been messing around a bit.
I decided to install urban terror. I followed the instructions, got quake III installed, the urban terror. When i click on the shortcut to urban terror, the screen goes black, resizes, black and back to desktop, nothing happens. The same thing happens when i run quake.
help! thanks

Ouch, SiS... I am afraid you won't get it to work with that.
Normal operation (2D) is supported with SiS, but 3D is not as far as I know. On windows it does, but not on Linux. Or that's what I experienced at least.
Easiest solution is to find and get a cheap Nvidia card, like a GF2 MX 400 or FX5200 (either PCI/AGP or PCI-e, depending on what your motherboard can take) and install the nvidia drivers. They work well.

damn, i've never actually looked inside this brick(its a laptop) i have had a lot of problems with it, so i alway expect the worst with this thing. For example, this thing actually melted the power cord into the computer a few years back...lol...can't use my 2 ton external battery, its a shame..
tis called an iBuddie4 made by EMC, i looked it up, tons of people have had the same melting problems as me...

Wow... so I guess that exploding batteries from Dell was nothing compared to this beast
Hmm, too bad it's a laptop, not easy to put in another card...

there is still a bit of hope, apparently this machine is built as a portable desktop, its supposed to have desktop hardware, and i'm hoping that includes the graphics card, ill open it up and see what it looks like in there,
thanks for your help everyone
