PB just had me update and now I get kicked for cvar rate=8000. I don't even know what this means. Can anyone help? Thanks

It means a certain server has an admin who disallows a rate of 8000, which is pretty retarded, since 8000 is enough for a game. Solution is already explained above: setting rate higher. Either through the console: /rate 10000 for example. Or through the menu in the system/network settings.

Let me say, that's one of the best additions to urt. 3000 was horrid. In fact, it could be even higher. It represents bytes per sec download from a server and I get the idea the smoothness of gameplay of those 20+ player servers from the U.S. and European CTF benefit from a 25000 value when it's used, which can be done from 256kbit/s client downloads and up.

So what unit is this cvar representing ? bits per second ?

Basically those who are still on dialup get screwed over with this feature. I used to be able to play in 3.0 with a rate of 3000 on dialup. Now that its been raised higher those who are in the old age get fucked over. I blame living in the state of texas where there is no cable or dsl in the country. No more UrT!
