I've seen the vids of this in action it looks pretty decent. ID finally spent some time on a workable engine, just didn't see any water in it. Is this what si/fs has been waiting for? Or is 4.0 simply a push for free and fun? I'm having fun by the way.

No rush, the easier something is to work on the better. That whole quake 4 and unreal 2 engine fiasco is almost over, those did more harm than good to most pc gamers and pretty much drove them to consoles. No one has any creativity any more! I'm only looking forward to 2 games world in conflict and fallout 3. Seemless cookie cutting that doesn't effect fps sounds like a dream come true hopefully its not one where your imagining the hot chick and wake up next to a cat meowing.............

ID is one of the few that really make engines, not marketing.

they now make engines, not games, those are all secondary.

and when they made games, they also made their engine that now bases most of the games in existence.

last they did was doom3 and it doesn't seem to have been designed with multiplayer in mind (8 player limit?), therefore it became unpopular fast. seemed to be more like a technology showcase.

quake3 seems to be still their last game aimed to have many playing it online.
