Problem is not everyone has a x264 decoder, so for compatability, I use xvid. Of course everyone is free to choose otherwise :D

Edit: encoder -> decoder

h264 is part of blu-ray and hd-dvd.

VLC player is capable of playing x264 compressed video content. As for hardware. It's recommended that the playback machine is 2Ghz or better. Altho i was capable of playing some x264 compressed content on a 1.1Ghz Centrino (probably the 2MB L2 cache that helped) but not on my 1.1Ghz Pentium3 (256kb L2).
Alot of the 'fragmovies' out there has been using x264 for HQ version of their content.
