Just a frag- and gameplay movie.

3:25 length, 59 MB

It isn't really what I intended it to be. My own fault for using Windows Movie Maker, really. I am once again reassured that anything published by Mircosoft is a virus claimed to be a program.

Faults include random rise and drop of the soundtrack, sounderrors, a commentless shutdown if there are more than a dozen or so clips in the timeline (in the end, I made the movie in several parts I strung together :|), darker output than the recorded videos were, to just name a few.

Things I was planning on doing:
- include proper stillscreens, taken ingame rather than in the movie maker, with maybe touchups in Photoshop
- better audio/visual sync
- proper audio editing
This was before Movie Maker stole the last of my patience.

I would still like feedback. And I don't even ask for less harsh criticism, I just wanted to get it off my chest :-)

---

The footage is taken from an 11 min CTF demo and a whopping 5 rounds of bomb, as it were the only demos I had.
I deliberately decided against recording more footage, trying to see what I could do with this amount of material.

This is my first movie of any kind ever.

PS: Some parts will make more sense to any that might understand German. It isn't necessary, though.

Flagpole texture missing, what buggy 3rd party content do you have? :D

I liked the cap! part the best :D

Removing all 3rd party maps gave me the texture back :-P Limiting this to jumpmaps yielded the same result, hence it's one of them.

I kinda got used to it (in singleplayer, of course. Pure wins against buggy 3rd party). I suppose I should keep it in mind next time I record anything. After I got something else than Movie Maker. The sig I'll fix tomorrow

The "cap! part" made me feel less like a n00b

o/ another urt4 movie.

Here are a few things:
- Stop using Windows Movie Maker (duh)
- Drop the 360 spin around player. It is over used, unless you edit it really well and captured it really smooth and add high quality motion blur to it, but this is not the case.
- Don't over use pan zoom in value too much. It blurs the content.
- You captured without FSAA so the edges of objects looks very blocky.
- Did you used Divx? or is this Xvid. Looks kinda like Divx to me with the colors being 'dull'.
- Talking about colors. UrT captures need color & gamma correction.
- use meGUI to compress you movie (xvid or x264)

Read this as constructive criticism ;)

Hope i'm done soon with my own vid so i can show you what i ment  8-)

Keep trying! We need some kick ass movies for urt4 (cuz there isn't any yet)!

intresting choice of music :)

l like the old fashioned vid filter you applied. you don't find that often as much anymore. ;)

look into adobe premiere elements CS3 for simple vid editing thats good. plus its free :D and works fundmentally like the full version, which costs bookoo bucks. $$$

Stop using Windows Movie Maker

And I really wanted to continue using Movie Maker for all eternity, too

Thanks for your criticism. It's neither Xvid nor divx; Movie maker didn't even give me the option to export uncompressed, just a couple of bitrates and resolutions. Incidentally, selecting the 30Mb/s avi option resulted in exactly the same lose of quality :-P

Ah well. Aside from your advise, I took the liberty of taking your movie config for reference.

Thanks, keres. I didn't have much choice for vid filter, but I'm happy you like it none the less.

learn from the tips

and ignore some tips. e.g. this forums, irc and generally 'hardcore' gamers aren't exactly the general population. e.g. fragging is boring to most posting about movies, it's not to the outside.

ps. too slow to download it from here for some reason.

Nexu:
I just watched your "A New Recruit" and the new movie concept. I'm really looking forward to your new movie 8-)

Seven:
Thanks, I'm trying :)

fate swarm:
I suppose everyone has their ideas on how a movie should be. It's a fps, hence fragging is a vital part imo.

I cannot really control the files I host using rapidshare, except delete them :-P
