Recorded footage using /video and /stopvideo has a bitrate of ~ 7 MB/s (at a resolution of 1080 to 720) :-P

Try encoding it in a different format. With a lower bitrate.

Maybe set cl_avimotionjpeg to 1 to make it use mjpeg codec, easier viewable, little lower quality. Dunno if every PC can play that back by default though.

Playing and recording video can be slower than actual game speed. But it doesn't matter. It's only because your PC is too slow. The actual video information van can be played back at normal speed on PC that are fast enough.
But playing back uncompressed video is always kinda slow, even mjpeg if your PC is slow.
But if you encode it to a less data-intensive codec (like xvid) you should be able to watch it at normal speed.

I think what Nexu is saying is that playing back uncompressed, high resolution video is going to be choppy unless you've got a pretty beefy PC. Which is very true in my experience.
