Hi, I am seeking technical knowledge on how to set up IOQuake3 to only use the bear minimum with just about everything Q3 related removed (scritps, textures, shaders, maps, ...).  I want to do a preliminary test with IOQuake3 for a Virtual World project. I know I should instead go to the IOQ3 site but I did and the answer I got is "look at other games like Urban terror to see how they did it".  So needless to say that that didn't help much.

So what do I need exactly from IOQ3 as a minimal to do any projects at all (non FPS related) ?

Why ?

What's the difference between downloading it from freenode and directly from IOQuake3.org ?

it's an irc channel at the irc network 'freenode', most the developers of ioq3 are in it.

and join the freenode network and room
