What about Power Supplies? You already got a pref on that? I use an Enermax 560Watt monster, and ThermalTake makes good (a little loud) fans. I"ve been contemplating whether or not to do NVidia or ATI...I have to do research on that one.

Video Cards seem to perform better with some games than others.
For some reason the GF FX Series does really well with Quake 3
Therefore I went with GF FX since Urban Terror is my main Shizzle
Here is a link with tests on all the popular cards.

Hooola,
I am currently trying to decide what I should get and how I should put together a homebuilt PC. I have almost no computer hardware experience, so its going to be a slow process. But I feel that building my own system is necessary if I want to be able to experience the new generation games as they should be.
I guess this is just a thread to discuss anything dealing with building PC's.
I'm looking for any links, manuals, sites, help on how to go about the process....also any personal experiences and pictures of custom built PC's
Also, any suggestions on hardware would be much appreciated (I still have no clue about the differences between the four GF 4's)
I'm looking to probably spend between 1300-1800 dollars. So please post anything that will help. Thanks!

My suggestion to you is either find a friend (a real life one) that's done it before and have him help you, or go buy a pre-built system. Building your own has many gotchas which can trip you up if you don't have experience with system building. If you are in this to learn and don't mind a few headaches and delays, then by all means, build your own; however, if you want a solid system and aren't looking for ultra high-end (where you save the most money building yourself), go with Dell or Gateway - no joke.

tim stole what i was gonna say. A friend who has done it before is the best resource ever.
Good call with AMD, I think you get a lot more bang for you're buck. I got all my new components from newegg.com, decent prices on mid to higher end stuff.

I take my PC experience for granted.
Everytime I build something it seldom works first time out. You will spend time firguring out what is not connected right , or why windows installation fails sometimes.
The best thing lately i bought a new case, and moved all my components to it, and went nice and slow tie wrapping all the cables and double checking connections. It took about 2 1/2 hours.
On boot up it actually worked !!!! I was so amazed because usually i brace for another hour of trouble shooting.
If you want to buy some pre-made custom built take a look here.
www.cyberpowerinc.com (no personal experience with them but prices look good)
www.magicmicro.com ( i bought a bare bones from them and they have good service ) They are an e-bay store, you can lookup their rating, and see that any bad reviews were resolved nicely.
If you got the $$$$ you can't lose with www.alienware.com they really put out good stuff. My friend has one and it is an amazing machine.
Take Care and Good Luck whichever way you go !
