i like the design on my heatsink, it has a little bracket for where you put the screw driver so its pretty much impossible to slip and damage the mobo :)

plus it keeps my amd 2500+ barton at a nice 30c with cpu idle extreme

Thermaltake CPU heatsinks are quite nice.

BTW that little tube thing you 'hit'. Probably an electrolytic capacitor.

Maybe you used the wrong sized screwdriver?

I am about to purchase an AKASA copper-based HSF (AK-795) for my Athlon 2800+ Barton.

If you got the room.

Dual fan heatpipe heatsink.

Its all copper and only weighs 3 pounds. Just better be sure your case is wide enough to handle it.

WOW! That's some heatsink! I've not seen one of those before, how much are they and how big are they? What temps would I get if I fitted it onto an Athlon XP 2800+ Barton along with one case fan?

You can use 2 80mm or 2 90mm fans on it.

As for temps. One guy says he is using an AMD 64 3500+ with it and reports temps of 95f idle to 101f full load with dual fans.

True that. Thats why idiots should have their fingers broken if they try to go inside a pc. I don't think it mounts direct to the socket. Probably uses the 4 mounting holes in the mobo around the socket...some mobos dont have those though. Personally I like this cpu cooler better:
