As far as I know Gee used:
cl_avidemo => bmp2avi => Adobe Premiere => Adobe After Effects => VirtualDub
Also he used Adobe Photoshop for some spezial effects like the predator look (so hard screenshot for screenshot work). Don't know how he made the intro of BP II, but guess 3D Max or something like that. Today programs like fraps would accelerate the first two steps.

you can try ulead video studio 8 aswell, it hasnt as much special features as adobe premiere pro but its very easy to use. I suggest u :
cl_avidemo ---> virtualdub ---> ulead
and movie commands for q3
cg_thirdperson 1
cg_thirdpersonangle 0-360
cg_thirdpersonrange 0-999 (?)
most important ones :]
there is also one that makes camera goin around person in thirdperson view, just type cg_thirdperson and press TAB to find that missing one, bcuz i forgot it :].

The CVAR is cg_cameraorbit 1. When the variable is greater than 0, it speeds up clockwise. Below 0 speeds up counter-clockwise. 0 will stop the camera completely. Cg_cameraorbitdelay also controls the speed. The higher the variable is, the slower the camera will rotate.

cameraorbit is just for a matrix-effect when the person is dying. Most of the time the camera view is switching to fast to the next player. I prefer using effects, when I like to ;>
