so i've been playing UT for a long time and recently bought Counter Strike Condition Zero and noticed how much better their sound was. It was real 5.1. I caould hear people coming from all directions, especially behind me.
I was wondering how i could enable 5.1 in quake or ut so i can hear footsteeps behind me, etc.

A THX certified 7.1 system is the way to go, because with headphones you can't tell if someone is behind you or infront of you.
surround sound is pretty usefull in battlefield 1942/vietnamn, you locate snipers 10 times faster than without surround.
headphones works well as long as you don't move your head and stare into the center of your screen, but if you start moving your head around a little then that illusion is gone.
Shure there is no difference between a surround system and headphones if you keep your head still, but you don't.
it would be good if someone spent the two or so hours requierd for 5.1/7.1 to work well.
