I want to start applying my film school knowledge to making UrT shorts, but.....I do not have any editing software. I would be willing to give an arm an a leg for a good one thats free, and has lots of effects. Also one that is overall userfriendly seeing as I am teh nob and UrT editing. On another note I am certified to edit with avid. If it is posible to edit with avid software than I am golden. I just need to know how  :?

If anyone could help answer these questions I will be more than willing to make them their own urt movie.
P.S any recoring software I could d/l would be a great help as well.

Not sure what avid is, but as long as you can edit .avi videos, it should be pretty easy.

Read http://www.forums.ur....html#msg100397 to see how you can record a .avi from UrT gameplay.

Which doesn't even let you make divx/xvid or uncompressed. Only wmv and weird videocamera formats... but that was old moviemaker 1, dunno how much it was improved.

As long it can read and write uncompressed avi video and audio stream. It's all good, as you can use VirtualDub to encode it (which is preferred anyway if you want to use xvid/lame).
Good luck!

VirtualDub let's you take a full control of the video. Video/Sound compression is very possible. Xvid double pass and LameMP3 audio 128-192kbps is all you need :))

Ofc if you have the cpu cycles to burn .. encode a x264 version would serve better as "high quality" :)

yes, check out x264. few people know it still, but it can encode smaller and better than divx.

or simply giving the size in disk you'd give to xvid, it'll give you much better image.

(it a lot avoids that "liquid" feel, a tradeoff of divx for better still picture quality.)
