just make a little prompt that pops up right after the first "Frozen sand LLC." logo startup thing, that asks for a name. Dont let them click continue if they havent entered something.
I imagine that this is fairly easier considering the fact you already have prompt windows functional, and that you can also add htings tauto-pop-up on startup.

just an idea for 4.1 that i thot would require maybe its own thread pimped out specifically for it.

I enjoy getting my slap on with new urt players cause I have it scripted with like 25 slaps in a row and I can just spam that in the console like 20 times and then frag on and watch him.
omfg admin abuse
I suppose I'll have to find another outlet for that soon.
sigh

These might be useful as well forcing first time start to be set (beside name).
- Screen resolution (maybe add windowed or fullscreen to that)
- Gamma settings (on the fly changing with a picture to see the brightness differences)
- Quick detail settings: very low, low, normal, high, highest (just cvars presets for various system performances)
- Network settings: dial-up, ADSL/Cable < 1Mbit, ADSL/Cable > 1Mbit
- Enable punkbuster (probably should have some code in to detect which engine is being use: Q3A or ioq3/iourt as PB is not available on io engines)
- Audio volumes

Wouldn't want to overload people with settings (even simple ones) before they can play tbh. Don't see other games doing it either.
Just about every game requires someone to change something. I can't think of names, but I know I've gone through an easy 10 or 15 screens of settings before. At the very least, a text message should make itself very visible for about 5 seconds after joining a game if you haven't set a name.
