I wrote this MOTD randomizer for my game servers (to give people something to read during map changes, kinda like in COD where you get random quotes after you died).
Files: http://nexu.pwner.or...ys/motd-update/
It's a shell script and rcon binary for Linux. You don't need shell access to the game-server machine since it's all done through RCON.
Example usage:
Let say you game server ip is 1.2.3.4 running on port 27960 and the rcon password is secretz.
./motd-update.sh 1.2.3.4:27960 secretz
This will update the MOTD on the game server once, taken a random quote from the text file quotes.txt (lines in quotes.txt should not exceed 70 characters per line or it will not fit on the loading screen!). There is an example quotes.txt included (the one i'm currently using for Intribe Cuddle Room and Intribe Cuddle Inn).
If you wants to update the MOTD every 10 minutes:
while true; do ./motd-update.sh 1.2.3.4:27960 secretz; sleep 600; done
Best would be to run this in a screen session.
