Yeh, I did 'steal' a little help from that, thanks.... I just wanted to finish it off! Next job is to maybe write a script to put all of this together.

A script would be beautiful.

I was trying to figure this out about a month ago but I got stuck. This made things much easier! Thanks for spending the time to do this, it works beautifully. I did this on Arch Linux.

Just a quick note, couldn't you simply make a copy of the currently installed urbanterror directory rather than downloading the install again?

P.S. This thread already shows up first on Google for 'Linux urban terror mapping". Unfortunately, perhaps due to a change in the url structure of the forums you're sent to the wrong thread, but it's still easy to find this.

You probably could, to be honest :roll:

But this way we ensure that a totally clean start. My own UT folder had been hacked around a bit because of a few failed attempts to get things working. I adopted the position of *really* wanting to make sure that you could get everything working from a clean start....

Anyways, I've edited the instructions and added the info!

w00t! Thank you so much for writing this tutorial. I'm a comlete linux noob but since my old machine can't handle vista or windows 7 I loaded up Ubuntu for better frames in UrT. I decided I might as well load Radiant as well and designate this machine as the UrT machine (until I can fund a new one)

This tutorial was perfect.

using Intrepid Ibex.

I spoke too soon. The grid area isn't showing up, in fact none of the view areas are. I can't see what I'm making. Please help!

Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex

Great job friend :)
First off all ./install/q3map2 worked from first issue in the console; my problem are with this lines :

"mv ../GtkRadiant/install/q3map2 ../GtkRadiant/install/q3map2.old
cp ./install/q3map2 ../GtkRadiant/install/
cd .."

When i used those commands by the time when i issue "cp ./install/q3map2 ../GtkRadiant/install/" i get " no such file or directory" in my console .
I will install Gtk for the second time without applying those commands.
PS: i use Open Suse 11.0

============================================================================
To avoid making a double post i will say that: GtkRadiant and the test map worked whithout issuing :
"mv ../GtkRadiant/install/q3map2 ../GtkRadiant/install/q3map2.old
cp ./install/q3map2 ../GtkRadiant/install/
cd .."  commands

Don`t know if this apply only to OpenSuse 11.0 , anyway as stated above congrat`s friend  8-)

BTW: how about a small tutorial with the first steps in creating a UT map :)

PS: just like first time i get this error :
creatura@creation:~/utmapping> ./GtkRadiant/install/radiant.bin
I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/home/creatura/utmapping/GtkRadiant/install/global.xlink"
I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/home/creatura/utmapping/GtkRadiant/install/installs/UrTPack/game/game.xlink"

How can i solve this?

I have come across the same issue as you after reinstalling my linux distro.
Browsing the web with google i found a same problem mentioned in the smokin` guns forum . The solution is quite simple : install mhash and mhash-devel :)
