if I had to venture a guess, the Dev Team might restrict the SPAS to pump and allow the M4 to fulfill its role as a semi-auto shotgun to further differentiate the roles to the two will have - making the SPAS a pump action 1-to-2 hit kill wonder while leaving the M4 as a mid range  shot-spraying nightmare.

Here is another video that shows how fast it can be fired. Benelli says it's an automatic on their site. Not sure what is meant by this since others here say it isn't an automatic. It doesn't need to be pumped (at least you don't see anyone pumping it) and it seems that you can load several shells at a time.  I guess strictly speaking you do have to pull the trigger each time so that would make it a semi-automatic.
