The static just happens at random intervals, I've totally dropped the client for now just because of it. Hopefully you find a fix.
I hope I find the fix since I cannot reproduce it. I will look into it soon. Work comes before :)

I haven't noticed any sound problems with Mitsu's November 23 build

No disrespect but I still suspect some are using the early versions that had the static.
What happened is, at some point there was dmaEX, no static.
Then dmaHD was created, HEAVY STATIC. I was telling psychorunner and he fixed it the very same day.
Then later dmaHD second version didn't have static either.
The problem was that at certain /s_volume values, e.g. 0.1, it was giving static. That's why psychorunner hadn't noticed it at first. It was reproduced easily if he changed to 0.1 etc.
If you get static at /s_volume of 1, it's not that.

It might help if you post your q3config.cfg that gives the static. So that it can be checked for reproduction.

seta dmaEX_interpolation "3"

The old engine is removed but those settings exist in case you use the sub-mixer of dmaHD called dmaEX with dmaHD_mixer 30.
