I don't know about specifics because it's not my area, but I can imagine that if a patch is huge it makes sense to spread it slowly and allow this process to continue for a few days. When everyone has it it can then be activated.

its a decent question :)

As with all computer games one of there principle costs is Bandwidth for there content updates.

If you take the registrations on the website as people who has to "download" lets say a 20mb map as in your example. Thats obviously 40k x 20 = 800,000mb which lets say we need to xfer at a rate of 2% over time, you can look obviously at .8TB of total bw and a rate in the region of probably say a Gigabit *Ish*.

Now lets say our content was hosted on voxel CDN, that would cost 10c per GB, PIPE is not so much an issue as they have a shit load. But it would cost 0.1 x 800 = $80 just for that single 20mb update.

So yes :) we have looked at it, and we are making previsions to handle the load of all this. Rest assured that what we need we will purchase to make it possible where ever possible.

Kind of but let’s be careful about putting the big picture into a single paragraph verses over two years worth of discussions and evaluations.

In that time we came to the conclusion that the way most games development work is based on the need to protect the selling price of the game and the hype needs to be maintained through the entire development of the game by keeping the development behind closed doors.

As a free game, and I do mean free, this kind of development creates more problems than it solves so we decided to do the complete opposite of what the big boys do by letting those interested in the nuts and bolts have a closer look as to what is happening to “their’ game.

So although I can say yes to what you ask I also have to include the disclaimer “but not necessarily in that order”

You've seen 5 player models already. Maybe you lost count but there are Sarah, Pierre, Charles, Anastazie, Tom and a mystery model you haven't seen, yet. I am working on # 7 right now.
