I noticed some other users mention a download problem using the updater. I had had the same problem. That was about a week ago. I have deleted everything in my directory, re-downloaded the updater, ran it. Every (.pk3), every binary, all filled with HTML from this site. Total directory size, 2.8Mb. I have a a compressed copy of my entire UrT setup if someone wants to look at it.
Maybe the problem is caused by two DNS strange (fall-back?) aliases for "
cdn.urbanterror.info" (the real download server for UrT files used from the updater) chained to plain "urbanterror.info" base domain.
When i run the command: "host
cdn.urbanterror.info" i get the following:
cdn.urbanterror.info has address 46.105.198.3
cdn.urbanterror.info is an alias for urbanterror.info.
cdn.urbanterror.info is an alias for urbanterror.info.
plus other irrelevant lines about mail handling.
And the same request for "host urbanterror.info" returns both ip addresses (91.121.174.74 and 91.121.174.57) of "
www.urbanterror.info" that is the server for the web pages and forum. Also ip 46.105.198.3 has no reverse lookup and no identified dns server (no authority) but, probably, it is a dynamic load balance ip, and could be different when requested from other places.
It seems (I guess) that when there is a primary DNS server request failure (or long delay due to overload), then the ip returned for
cdn.urbanterror.info is instead that of
www.urbanterror.info from one of those (fall-back?) aliases, and hence the requested file is not found, so an html page is returned in its place.
The current Urt-Updater is not robust, so it does not check the md5sum of the file returned to raise an error condition in this case as it should. FS is already working to correct the updater to avoid this problem, but maybe they should also check their DNS configuration asking help from their DNS providers (cloudflare.com ?) about the CDN (content delivery network) and the fall-back aliases...
If this were the case, a (dirty) workaround could be to configure web server in urbanterror.info (=
www.urbanterror.info) to unconditionally redirect all requests with host name "
cdn.urbanterror.info" in the url (i.e. a virtualhost in apache, etc) to be served by a url with the host name substituted by a numeric fixed ip address (like 46.105.198.3) randomly selected from the pool of cdn servers if there are more than one.
In any case, all those are only my non-expert guesses...
