I thought this was the case, but why not actually say that it was something on the side when releasing it to the forums? You delivered it like it was a selling point for UrT HD moving in the right direction.
Well as you said it's what you though was the case and us/me assuming that the intention was in the context of the dialogue which is the catch 22. The intention of posting the idea in raw form is the same way we do things behind the blue curtain of seeding an idea that may or may not have merit with out the need for extensive discussion and with proof of concept in hand.
A lot of actual work is done to prove if an idea will or will not work and most cases you could say the work is wasted, or put aside, as a concept that does not fit with the fabric of the game play. The same can be assumed here where the only thing that might come of it is a fun time talking about the idea with out the expectation that it may or may not make it into the game.
That said there are a lot of things that can be assumed and being human there are times that we might miss a bullet point here and there that is missed that would better explain the context and intention of whats no more than an entertaining idea that allows those who play the game a part in the on going development of the game.
We have “said†many times that feedback from the forums is how we formulate working ideas as to what the players want and find solutions that covers as many problems as possible with a single solution, we hope, and it should be common sense that it is far easier to work towards what our players will play with than it is to try and reinvent the wheel by over reaching by working on “thing†of little or no value.
A good example is player visibility has always been an issue with the idtec3 engine since day one and in the mix was a number of players with color blindness issues so the solution to the problem was to introduce skin swapping where the player could select their own team colors as well as thous of their opponent. Problem solved and BladeKiller was happy to provided player model textures on request based on individual preferences. Totally feedback related.
The adding of the 1911 was another element added base on feedback. As usual the suggestion was lost to time and as habit we don't usually post to a “general†idea as it creates the assumption of a promise. A simple request that like all things requires research as to merit and the 1911 “is†of historical significances, as well as a good fit as to the ideals of a Hollywood tactical shooter that it was worth the effort to add it to the line up. Once again feedback related.
The introduction of blogs once again feedback. Being more open as to whats being worked on, even if it's assumed to be a wast of time, = feedback. We assume a lot of times that it's assumed that this game is all about feedback as it's the way it has always been since day one and if someone wants to confirm that their idea was used, months or maybe even years later, then they are more than welcome to ask but in most cases the origin of the idea is lost in the consolidation of acceptance and the process of implementation.
As habit we don't make it a habit to comment on suggestions or feedback as doing so generally halts the dialogue right there and then and there are many times the a topic takes off that the best action is not not become involved. Let people talk and when we do chip in it's not to squash the idea of the individual but to challenge the development of the idea. It's yeah it's a good idea but here is a problem now solve it.
A lot of words hu just to say yes we take feedback seriously and there is a lot that does not go into the game on a whim and what goes into the release as a bullet point in the release notes. You will never see iron sights in UrT, unless there is a way to implemented it into the fabric of the game.....Feedback again. ;)
