Hi,

I was wondering if some standard maps like Crossing, Eagle, Raiders, Tombs and others can bu supplied with an AAS file for bots. I can do it myself, using the bsp's from the zUrT pk3's, but then everybody has to download it.

Is there a reason why many standard maps don't have bot support?

eagle with bots?
guess that would be pretty boring. its just to complex to allow them to enter e.g. the castle and hope they don't get stuck on some point.
And well. i guess to have the bots act more or less smart you would need to set up all those ents and do not enter clips. so no bots just saves work.

oh. and screw bots anyway. :)

I also prefer to play without bots, but some of our servers need them to attract players. We always remove the bots if there are enough players online.

I've made some maps in the past, suitable with bots, without adding anything. They just walk through the field fine. And there were all kind of walls and buildings and stuff in it.


Another thing: many maps that DO have bot support, aren't actually working properly. Some examples:

Harbortown - Bots stay in spawn
Prague - Bots stay in spawn
Ramelle - Red bots stay in spawn
Toxic - Bots stay in spawn

All nice levels actually...


Now there are many maps we can't put in our mapcycle. And it's not only our server; many servers use bots to attract players. And the way it is now, many maps are not being played because of the lack of functioning from the bots.

I don't want to push my opinion, but is it really impossible to do something about it?

Unless the bots act like those in Unreal Tournament 2004, I'd rather not play with any bots. Really, they're so bad it's boring to play with them. And it'd be nice if server owners made it clear that they are bots, giving them proper nicknames... so I can quit the server as soon as I join it without wasting my time. :P

Also qtracker can detect bots via their ping and mark the server as populated by bots. it also subtracts bots from the actual number of players.

Though i recently found some servers not showing in the qtracker listing...

snowzz: Bots are 100% server-side. If you create The Ultimate AAS Pack, it will just work on every server that has it, clients will not have to download it.
