Results of my little test:
Ubuntu 6.06 + Teamspeak + ioquake3 (SDL enabled) = fine
Ubuntu 6.06 + Teamspeak + normal quake3 (no SDL) = no Urt sound
Ubuntu uses ALSA by the way.

for me to get on-board sound to work in quake3 and TS2 at the same time is:
as root
rm -f /dev/dsp
rm -f /dev/adsp
mknod /dev/adsp0 c 14 12
mknod /dev/dsp0 c 14 3
ln -sf /dev/adsp0 /dev/dsp
chmod 777 /dev/dsp
chmod 777 /dev/adsp0
chmod 777 /dev/dsp0
and finaly
echo "quake3.x86 0 0 direct">/proc/asound/card0/pcm1p/oss
works just fine for normal user, but
it messed up My damn Quake4 :-/
now I cannot play Quake4 it just crashes to the desktop.
as root
rm -f /dev/dsp
rm -f /dev/adsp
mknod /dev/adsp0 c 14 12

doesn it really work now? i'll check it out later.
bored of that half-maintained workaround.
edit: ah wait, that looks like a 2-channel card. had one of those doing that but then it couldn't run more than 2 sources simultaneously.

on kde here, I can put, at least on the bar, a "quickbrowser" button if I drag a dir on it. not that I need it though.
ps. whatever they say about kde being "bloatware" if setup correctly (especially without the crap called artsd), it doesn't get more cpu time than windowmaker. in expense of little ram (in an age where a meg of ram is cheaper than can of cola), you get the most easy to use window manager in the world (linus torvands approved too )

Will it automaticly update too and stuff? Or do I need to drag the folder on it everytime I change stuff?
And ye, Im getting a little tired already of some annoying things in Gnome, so I might switch to KDE.
Crappy clipboard (no picture-support and closing programs erases the clipboard-content) and not being able to select multiple items by dragging a box around it when in listmode instead of iconmode, scrollbars in music/video-players not reacting quickly
But first Im gonna try XGL + Compiz (or is it called beryl now)
