Setup: non-hardware mixing card(like an usual onboard card, a USB headset, a cheapo pci, etc.).

After alsa's mixing wouldn't do it with its /dev/dsps, and various sound daemons would either not do the job or delay or distrort the sound, I finally got good results with jackd and oss2jack: http://fort.xdas.com...ck/install.html + the rest of that website. it may be a bit of work for beginners.

well I sure cannot get very far with this! I cannot compile fusd correctly. I have tried the hacked versions, tried cvs. and when I did recompile My kernel with all the proper settings for a module like that. it acts like it loads but it does'nt create the /dev/fusd/control or the /dev/fusd/status devices! and I think that I properly updated UDEV rules.d and permitions.d to add that device on start up. and nothing.

here's a little background:
2.6.9-11.EL kernel running on CentOS 4.1
cmedia 8738 sound card (the only sound card that I never had problems with in linux) it says in the kernel docs/sound/cmipci.txt that it is a "Full Duplex" card.

here is a dump of My lspci and other info, straight outta the "How To" from linux-gamers

Here

I'd try 2.6.13 or .14 with the latest versions of oss2jack's site, or .15 with the patch above.

edit:
ok, versions on the oss2jack front page updated for 2.6.15, they seem to be fine on 2.6.16 too.

latest versions of udev may need a slightly modified udev rules file

not sure why it fails on 2.6.17, but an untested fix is to undef CONFIG_FUSD_DEBUG in kfusd.c

in 2.6.18, in addition to that I had to comment out #include <linux/devfs_fs_kernel.h> and remove parts of "#ifdef CONFIG_DEVFS_FS" (or undef it).

that compiling only if running make in kfusd/, it wouldnt compile in main dir.

:-D lol it gets ridiculous, the package needs a maintainer or have something better than it. (a game on alsa (or sdl)?  :-D)

shouldn't, as TS2 uses OSS and therefore directly mmaps a sound device.
