First off all that is a spark not a muzzle flash. Second of all I noticed that when shooting concrete, there are sparks, but when shooting metal, there are no sparks. WTF

It depends on what the mapper has set as a surface afaik.

No I'm not talking about the actual spark or "muzzle flash", I'm talking about the "muzzle flash effect where bullets hit" (because I don't have a better name for it) by which I mean the area around a person shooting a gun lights up (the map lights up), *and* the area around where a bullet hits lights up. Interestingly, if you turn off the sparks and particles (leaving just the smoke puffs) you will still get the flashes.

lol. come on man! I know that! But I want flashes where the people shoot their gun, just like I had in every version prior to 4.0.  Anyways, never mind, I've already determined that there is no way to do this.

I posted the solution to this in our forum (coincidentally:P).

sfx_particles 0 should do it.

wouldn't that remove other effects? particle effects is a general category.

Yep, that's the things you see when hitting the walls. It's actually cg_sfxparticles. It's a level above cg_sfxSurfaceImpacts. Both settings are in the menu as well by the way.
