Let me just say something that has to be said; do not underestimate the power of simulation of '3D' sound on normal headphones:
I stumbled into a study supporting that it's probably better than multiple speakers since, simply, people have 2 ears.
(should be easy to google such info)
hence, those 5.1 headphones (with multiple speakers) and their hype? probably a very bad idea.

I hope christophe can speed up his new build for better performance.
At the moment I schwitch this "s_useIkalizer" setting the whole day on and off.

it was only for testing purposes but I don't think that you will hear 256 voices at a time only on hacked servers with 64 players or something.

can you compile a 64bit version of the library? we may eventually be able to use it.
(well, it's already possible to compile an 64bit ioq3 though qvm compilation is not supported yet, only dlls and qvm interpreted).
edit: Now we do have a rudimentary 64bit client for windows: http://forums.urbant...00 (it has actual qvm compilation)

generally you will have the best results with 0x21 (Headphones)
check that you have the iqs folder in your q3ut4 directory (is only included in the iqs version from this thread)
when you are running the optimized *.exe from Mitsubishi with sound pre-catching you have to place it manually from this thread here or use the standard sounds with

Sad to say I gave up on the iKalizer in its current incarnation. It's superior for lots of mid-range location, and replacement sounds, but it handicaps me for these reasons:
1. I can't hear people close to me nearly as easily as without ikalizer
2. audio levels are totally out of balance on many maps
3. breathing and door opening and footsteps are muffled in comparison to weapon sounds
(yes i've tried messing with 0x?? and ika_LL settings)
I think it could become a brilliant add-on and the programmer's efforts have been outstanding, but as it is it causes me to make too many mistakes.
I'll be checking future releases eagerly.

ye but one at least has to use openal; the blunt flat sounds of non-openal/non-ikalizer are horrid.
