Is it possible to disable effects (normal, specular,ecc.) for this engine?

There will be settings for low configs of course but this is too early to say what you'll be able to disable.
FYI: this screenshot was taken on my 5 years old computer and the game runs fine on it with all settings set to the maximum.

Only the ones that we rebuild for the new engine. Or other members of the community of course.

No idea. Like Barbatos said it's too early to say anything about performance. It will mostly depend on how much detail we end up adding to the maps and how complex the final player models/weapons will be.

Well actually no that's not what it looks like. Screen shots never reproduce the actual quality of how a game looks when rendered in game using a low quality format. Long way of saying it looks “betterâ€.
As for getting started I've recommended to those interested in making maps for HD to start now by learning how to us a 3d editing application.
For example Casa is layered in 3ds Max.

This looks really nice. I wonder how the player models look, personally i never thought they fit the environment and that they should have a somewhat different art style. Hopefully the ones in HD will fit more ^- ^
