Not having bots run properly is a significant deficiency that should be corrected imho.  :|

Better yet and an easier fix, remove them from the code base

No, a "fix" would return the functionality of bots to what it was prior to v3.0.  Removing them from the code base is eliminating a feature, not fixing it.

Why is there no desire to restore bot functionality?  It is a highly useful device for keeping a server "active".  When it worked correctly (UrT ver. < 3.0), I set bot_minplayers to "2".  A player joining an empty server would have a moving target, and the bot is automatically created or annihilated as others join/leave.

During the later v3 days, bot_minplayers was completely broken, but at least "comp-stomp" games were possible (humans on one team, many more bots on the other).  Now, with v4 and bot_enable "1", the uptime of my server is 36 (or fewer) hours, depending on connection traffic.  Crashes are more likely to occur the longer the server has been running, and the more players on the server -- not even bot players.  I've had my server crash apparently for no reason when there were no bots in the game.

I suppose my rant here will fall upon deaf ears, as it has in the past.  While I'm quite pleased with some of the improvements in v4 as a server admin (e.g. map auto-download and ioq3 engine), it's very disappointing to see some issues ignored or dismissed.

Bots are not a part of multiplayer, online game play. The code will not be updated or fixed and they will continue to be unsupported. Why you ask? Because we don't have the time, energy or resources to update this "feature".

I tried it as well. Bots ran fine until I killed one, then it crashed completely. No matter what Map I tried, always the same outcome.

Well, Bots in anything Q3 related were the most stupid bots anyways. ;) In other Games Bots were a lot better, and there are very little games where you can actually play "good" with Bots together.

Its like from Level 1 - 5 but basically it means like:

Bot - Level 1 - completely confused , doesn´t hit shit
Bot - Level 2 - slightly less confused, maybe hits sometimes  :lol:
Bot - Level 3 - still confused, hits a bit more  :wink:
Bot - Level 4 - same confusion, hits a lot
Bot - Level 5 - still nuts, hits you as soon as it sees you, no matter how far you´re away  :lol: :lol: :evil:

They crash when using Q3 + Urt 4.1 too, so it's not io-related :)
