I'm not a coder so I can't really comment on the benefits of putting the game code into OS.
From the content side of things though the game code is tied into the in game assets in such away that the two are dependent on one another in a critical balancing act that a change in one area can create problems in another.
The server crashing in 002 for example was caused by a bug in the player model that caused the hitmesh to collapse into it's self.
Another strong motivator to change to UE4 is some of the tools to maintain healthy content, since it is tied into code, is either no longer available or no longer work due to obsolesces and other options are showing signs of slow death.
