in Urban Terror - posted Saturday, 29 May 2010 by FrozenSand
We are very happy to announce that both Nemesis and Kr0m have accepted to join the FrozenSand development team!

Kr0m will now take full control of the forums and Nemesis will be leading Quality Assurance.

As Kr0m has been doing a great job moderating the forums for years don't expect any major changes there. However, Quality Assurance is ready for an Upgrade. So keep an eye on that!

Return of the Apoxol

in Urban Terror - posted Thursday, 22 April 2010 by FrozenSand
It has been almost nine years, and many many updates later, but we are very happy to have Apoxol back to the Frozen Sand dev team! Apoxol formally quit development for UrT in the fall of 2001 to work for Raven.

this is what Urban Terror looked like back in 2001

Apoxol last worked on Urban Terror back in the UrT 2.3 days! As a very talented programmer he was involved with things like anti-lag, hit detection, the game code, maps, basically, pretty much everything.

Now Apoxol will be be doing pretty much everything again!

Urban Terror deemed dangerous!?!

in Misc - posted Wednesday, 14 April 2010 by FrozenSand

Urban Terror under investigation by German government authorities

The German government is making laws to protect the German youth from violent video games.
Their belief is that violent video games influence teenagers to think that killing people in real life is okay.

In a few weeks time, the German government will decide whether Urban Terror should be classified as a dangerous game!

The German commission may well decide that Urban Terror is too violent and should therefore be put on a list of "Dangerous Video Games for adolescents". Our website and game will then be blocked from schools and other institutions.

Obviously this will only apply to Germany.

See the original letter in German, and an explanation in English:

de
uk

A quick interpretation of above German letter: Frozen Sand is invited to a hearing on the 6th of May 2010, in Bonn, Germany. During this hearing we can defend Urban Terror's loving nature in front of a special panel. We would have to put arguments forward why our game does not make psycho killers out of kids and why the game should not be deemed too dangerous.

You can read, even more, about the Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien (BPjM) receiving a official complaint from the Kommision für Jugendmedienschutz der Landesmedienanstalten (kjm) in this pdf PDF document.
Just be warned most of it is in German!

We are of course interested in your comments! Please post them here

ETGiRC - upcoming Public Beta

in Misc - posted Saturday, 13 March 2010 by FrozenSand
As many of you know, IRC is over 25 years old! Yet still a very popular means of communication for clans and gaming communities. We at Urban Terror are no exception.
You can always find us on the EnterTheGame IRC network and also on Quakenet.

ETG is getting ready for the launch of their upcoming Public Beta of ETGiRC somewhere this month! Unfortunately, there will be a limited number of keys available. so you have to keep an eye on it in order not to miss it.

ETGiRC is MORE than an IRC client!

With the introduction of ETGiRC, the future of IRC is going to be bright and full of possibilities once more! "A complete evolutionary leap" is the most accurate description as to what ETGiRC is. It's not just another chat client, some small upgrade/change, or some feature added to IRC. It is a complete shift in IRC, in what we see, in how we use it, in what it offers us, and in how we interact and experience it.

ETGiRC is network independent, with multi-network support for up to 5 connections at a time, custom network configurations, advanced window management system, GAMES, Advanced Game Query System will obtain regional server lists and buddy list, and you can design your chat room/channel's appearance.

But the most important feature of ETGiRC is the introduction of customized chat rooms.

Regarding your Display name

in Website & Forum - posted Saturday, 06 March 2010 by FrozenSand
Since the launch of the new website, we have had many complaints and requests, as well as many many compliments. Thank you!

One of the most common suggestions we've seen on our forums is to allow for more flexible display naming. This was a surprise for us, because none of the beta testers had expressed this concern. But we love you all, and have decided to listen, a bit.

Name

So now, you can choose how your "Passport ID" is displayed. You can add upper characters, spaces, accents and " .-". The displayed name must match the Passport ID, but you now have more cosmetic options.

Tag

We have added the option to add your clan's tag to your name. Of course, to be able to use a particular tag, you must be a member of that particular group because the group owns the tag. It is simple and secure : you 'wear' the tag of your clan on both the website and the forums, so everybody will know that you are a trusted member of that clan !

Click on your Passport profile, and enjoy !

Thank you for the feedback!! We will continue work on some of your other suggestions!

Breakin' Tombs

in Media - posted Thursday, 04 March 2010 by FrozenSand
As many of you have noticed we uploaded a special video to Youtube to entertain you while we were moving to the new website. We hope you enjoyed it!

In this video you can see Tom and Sarah in a dance off. And well there is one clear winner.
In case you missed it, then watch it below:

If you watch closely you get a glimpse of the duals that will be introduced in Urban Terror 4.2

Credits go to FrankieV who created the animations, wrote the script and edited the video. Also Bladekiller modified ut4_tombs especially for this video.
