Security Update - 27th January 2012
We have just released a security fix for the current exploits, you can access these downloads on our Security page on our downloads pages. These binaries are based on the 2007 ioUrbanTerror which is currently distributed with 4.x

We strongly recommend that all servers admins update their servers. This includes the recent DrDos (DDoS Exploit) fix, as well as all the work done by Rambetter. A big thanks to him !
Our man Barbatos is the maintainer for the security fixes, if you have any further additions in the context of security, please send him a PM.
You are also welcome to comment in our forum.

Urban Terror Launcher

We have made a small application to add the Urban Terror Network Protocol to your system to allow you to launch Urban Terror straight from your web browser and connect to a gameserver even quicker.
Download, install and forget about it. Your computer is ready to connect to your favourite Urban Terror servers just by clicking a server link on our servers browser, for example.

Important Security Update
This is a very important security update. About 2 months ago we released a security fix for the Vote System expoilt that allowed people to steal control of your servers. Up until now the damage has been minimal, however, there are now people activly using this method in Europe and in which case most likely to spread almost everywhere!
It is very important that all server admins use the new server binary. At the moment we only have this file for linux in 32bit. This can be found here. I have had reports from many people within the community about there servers being stolen.
All future released of Urban Terror will have this patch included. If you do not use the above binary, i strongly suggest turning voting off. Thanks!

Changes to ioUrbanTerror
With the help of the people from ioq3 and others, I've been working on ioUrbanTerror a little, updating it. It will be released at the same time as 4.1 (release date unknown for now). Just thought I'd let you know what the changes are so far to ioUrbanTerror... Changes to Urban Terror itself will be posted another time ;)
Anyway, hope you like the changes; let me know in this forum thread.
• The Urban Terror installer will include ioUrbanTerror, so no more 2 installers.
• Based on newer revision of ioq3 code. Not the newest, since they switched to SDL input for windows, which I don't think is accurate enough for now.
• Auto download for clients will be enabled by default and will be on a separate cvar (cl_autodownload instead of cl_allowdownload). That way you can always leave it off in Q3 (cause it doesn't work well there) and on in ioUrbanTerror.
• For every download, it will first ask you if you trust the server, so that you won't download crap fake maps from a server you don't trust.
• The 4.1 default server.cfg will have: sv_dlURL "urbanterror.net" by default (urbanterror.net runs a script that will spread the requests over multiple mirrors), so every server admin without web space will be able to offer 3rd party maps.
• The server will only reference maps that are in use instead of every pk3 in the q3ut4 folder. That way auto download will now also work if the server has a LOT of 3rd party maps.
• No more trouble with hunkmegs. ioUrbanTerror client will use 256, even when the cvar is set lower.
• Improved the console auto-completion.
• Enabled win_fastmodechange by default so you can quickly restore a minimized window.
• Improved the quality of the sound when using /video to create an .avi from a demo. Also fixed the crash when the demo was over. And properly apply gamma-correction to the .avi.
• The default value of 'dedicated' will be 2 instead of 0 for ioUrTded. This will fix a 100% CPU usage issue.
• The default value of in_mouse will be -1 instead of 1. Should fix the 'sticky' key problems.
• BattlEye removed, it is dead. Will no longer cause 'failed to load BE' errors.
• Will include the Logitech acceleration reg fix in the installer.
• Cut down a lot of the console spam during map changes (easier to read back conversations from previous map).
• Will be built with other compiler to which some people reported better performance.
• timedemo command is fixed
• 64 bits executables for Linux available
• Mac's code is more up-to-date
• Added ioUrTded for windows
• removed auth code from server side (until the new system is done)
• removed truncation of cvars when requesting them
• Added floodprotect to userinfo spam (name/race/funstuff)
• Show system time during play with cl_drawclock 0/1
• Added /rcon tell command
• +vstr and -vstr added for more scripting
Anyway, hope you like the changes; let me know in this forum thread.

BattlEye development for ioUrT ended
Due to other commitments, the BattlEye developer will stop supporting ioUrbanTerror. This means there won't be any more updates to BattlEye. There is now no reason to continue running a server with BattlEye enabled.
This means server admins should now choose between running a q3/UrT server with PunkBuster, or a ioUrT/UrT server without any anti-cheat.
We understand how the lack of anti-cheat can be very cumbersome and are also dissappointed about BattlEye not being finished.
Thanks to some good tips from the community, we have contacted another anti-cheat group that might start supporting ioUrT. However, they have other priorities first, so for now, we have to wait.

Windows 98/Me/2000 & Linux users: Critical update for BattlEye
This is only needed if you use Windows 98/Me/2000 or Linux. WinXP users don't have to do anything. It's for both clients and servers! Fixes loading issues for Win98/Me/2000 and updating issues for linux.
Battleye normally should auto-update, but because of certain issues, this update has to be manually applied. Windows users download both the .dll's and overwrite the current ones. Linux users download both the .so's and overwrite the current ones. The current ones are in the BattlEye folder, that should be next to your q3ut4 folder.

BattlEye Support for ioUrbanTerror
When using Urban Terror without Quake 3 Arena (using ioUrbanTerror), it's not possible to use PunkBuster. Although it's possible to have a game without an anti-cheat system, we all know it's better to have a protection from at least the public cheats that are out there.
We are therefore glad to report that the developer of BattlEye agreed to make BattlEye support available for ioUrbanTerror. It's not yet sure if it will be available as soon as Urban Terror is released, but it can easily be added later with an ioUrbanTerror update if needed. If this anti-cheat system turns out to work well, there's no reason to keep using PunkBuster any longer, which means the community will no longer be split up between old school and new players.
Although this is very good news, there's also a drawback. BattlEye works on Linux and Windows only. It does not support Mac clients (yet). The developer did say there's a possibility of support for Mac clients in the future, if a good Mac coder can help accomplish it. As a temporary 'solution', Mac users can play at servers that don't use BattlEye, or use bootcamp to play though Windows. We are aware of the great community members out there that use Macs and we regret that it isn't available for them from the start, but we believe the importance of having an anti-cheat system outweighs this fact.
