New Urban Terror League by ioUrT.com

in Leagues - posted Tuesday, 27 November 2007 by FrozenSand

Seven of Nine provided us with the follow information:

The ioUrT.com League is intended to continue what the “Urban Terror Fun League” started, with some improvements here and there.

This league is for 5on5 Capture The Flag. Our maximum number of participants for the first season will be 15 clans. If we reach our capacity, the league will be divided into three divisions (each division containing five clans each). At the present time, we will only be accepting European clans, but, if all goes well, we might expand and start accepting North American clans, too.

More info and the rules can be found HERE

Before registering your clan, please read the rules.

Our irc channel is #iourt on quakenet

Unofficial Urban Terror 4.0 Promo Video + a word to server admins

in Media - posted Tuesday, 20 November 2007 by FrozenSand

Kane, a member of our community has put together a nice promo movie of Urban Terror 4.0. There's a thread in our forum where you can find the link and post feedback.

A word to server admins

First of all: thanks for hosting the servers, greatly appreciated! Second: Please make sure to disable BattlEye and sv_allowdownload on your server.

BattlEye only applies to servers using ioUrbanTerror. BattlEye is dead and doesn't catch ANY cheat. It does cause an amount of players not to be able to join your server though. So please, set sv_battleye to 0 in your server.cfg and restart it with +set sv_battleye 0 as an argument (./ioUrTded +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +set sv_battleye 0 for example).

sv_allowdownload is not used for the new fast auto-download system. Setting it to 1 might cause the old SLOW downloadsystem to be triggered. So please keep it at 0.

Also, you might wanna read this thread about a free sv_dlURL.

Tnx again!

New Urban Terror Competition

in Leagues - posted Friday, 16 November 2007 by FrozenSand

Wolfseye tipped us off about a new competition for Urban Terror. The following is written on his site:

Until End of January 2008 you now have time to post your ideas about this, what you would like to have in this Ladder. What Gametypes are most appreciated etc. etc.

Also I would like to ask anyone for help in Support of this Project. This means we need the following people.

Server Admins
Match Admins
Support in Charge of validating Demos about possible Cheaters
Organizers

Also, this Ladder is not supposed to be only for EU people. So I would appreciate if people from the US would help building also the Ladder Section for the US so both continents can have the best of both worlds. :)

If you want to contribute Game Servers, GTV Servers or other Resources for this Project, you are more than welcome to let us know.

This isn´t going to be some half-organized thing, this will be a real good planned Project, so anyone in this Community will be able to benefit from it and enjoy it. So if you really want to be a part of this, however you can be able to contribute in this, you are welcome to.

Discuss further in Wolfseye's ioUrbanTerror support forum and/or in our Urban Terror forum.

We from FrozenSand, LLC support this competition! We would appreciate any help that you could give this Ladder Project in Help & Resources, so this can be something we all look forward to.

FrozenSand Urban Terror Tree Models

in Urban Terror - posted Thursday, 15 November 2007 by FrozenSand
This is a news post aimed at mappers.

Ever wonder where the trees in Casa, Thingley and other official 4.0 levels came from? They were made by TwentySeven, BladeKiller and RabidCow, but the models were not included in 4.0 to save file size. FrozenSand has now made these models available to all community level designers. They come in 4 versions; bare, green, orange or gold leaves.

Download it here or here.

The Urban Terror def file is now also available here by the way.

    Urban Terror Reviewed at Sourcetrunk

in Media - posted Monday, 29 October 2007 by FrozenSand
Sourcetunk, "your trunkload of open source" has recently posted an audio review of Urban Terror (v4.0) on their web site. Dimitri Larmuseau has provided his input and comments about the latest release of the game. The review is quite comical, yet a great overall and positive review about the game. If you are still unsure about downloading Urban Terror and getting addicted, check out his audio review. Some great in game audio commentary along with some of his friends.

The Urban Terror part starts at 00:12:00 and goes untill 00:25:30.

    Some updates

in Misc - posted Saturday, 13 October 2007 by FrozenSand
There's a few things I think are worth a newspost.

First of all, there has been some work on the frontpage. Certain info was added, pages were updated and/or cleaned up. If you think anything's missing, post about it on the forums, this thread for example.

One thing which I know is missing is good screenshots. The ones currently in the gallery are kind of boring. Please refer to this forum thread so that we can make it better.

Talking of screenshots... BladeKiller provided us with some pics of the new skins for 4.1. Here you go:

Another thing is the work gurkesaft is doing. He coded the serverside of a q3 authserver, which means we could run our own auth server with a key system for ioUrbanTerror. This means we could have a system where people would have to sign up for keys before they can play (on servers that demand it). The keys could be used to identify/ban people. It's pretty interesting stuff. Still in testing phase though. Details need to be worked out too. Read about it here.

Finally, there's been a few new third party maps released. Check out this post for the full list of 3rd party maps.

PS: Sorry, we don't have a date for 4.1. It's too hard to tell when it will be done... Could be next week, could be 2 more months...

    BattlEye development for ioUrT ended

in UrT software (io) - posted Sunday, 12 August 2007 by FrozenSand
Due to other commitments, the BattlEye developer will stop supporting ioUrbanTerror. This means there won't be any more updates to BattlEye. There is now no reason to continue running a server with BattlEye enabled.

This means server admins should now choose between running a q3/UrT server with PunkBuster, or a ioUrT/UrT server without any anti-cheat.

We understand how the lack of anti-cheat can be very cumbersome and are also dissappointed about BattlEye not being finished.

Thanks to some good tips from the community, we have contacted another anti-cheat group that might start supporting ioUrT. However, they have other priorities first, so for now, we have to wait.

Urban Terror Stands Alone at ClanBase

in Leagues - posted Friday, 10 August 2007 by FrozenSand
Beginning Sunday, August 19, ClanBase will start supporting Urban Terror leagues using the stand alone version of the game, thus not requiring gamers to have a retail copy of Quake III Arena.

This is what the release of the stand alone version of Urban Terror was developed for. Of course since the release on April 1, there has been the continuing question of a viable anti-cheat program. This will mean that admins will have more work when it comes to running the league.

For more information read the ClanBase announcement and go join the gaming on IRC at #clanbase.UrT. Thanks to the crew at CB and the Urban Terror gamers for making this possibility a reality!

ut4_suburbs: coming to you in 4.1.

in Urban Terror - posted Saturday, 07 July 2007 by FrozenSand
Do you like maps with vertical play and roof access? Well, you're in luck! Terror in the Suburbs by ShminkyBoy is an open- air, vertical play map that is slated for release with the upcoming 4.1 update for Urban Terror. It supports Team Survivor, Team Deathmatch, Capture and Hold, Bomb Mode, Follow the Leader, Capture the Flag, and Free for All. Here's some screenshots:

PS: We don't know when 4.1 will be released yet, could be soon, could be late (sorry).
